About the Ironbridge
The Ironbridge was the first cast iron bridge to be built and constructed by Abraham Darby III of the Darby family, during the Industrial Revolution.
Construction started in 1777 and the bridge was opened in 1781 for use.
Situated in the town of Ironbridge within the surrounding Shropshire countryside and spanning the River Severn, it is one of the most popular bridges for tourists and engineering fans across the world and probably one of the most important bridges ever built.
